Losing ground, fast

Advani, BJP's prime ministerial candidate, has come out with a new slogan. Hitting out at the UPA, he has redefined ‘GDP' as good governance, development and protection. He asserted that the UPA's policies have not helped the poor. Advani, who has always been good at coining catchy slogans, has for the first time tried to act as the Leader of Opposition. In the last four years, he and the BJP were content with organising walkouts. It seems that they were unable to come to terms with their loss in the 2004 parliamentary polls contested on the misleading ‘Shining India' slogan.

Advani knows that the UPA's policies are alienating the common man, a mistake that even the NDA made. He has understood that taking on the government on the eve of the budget session could prove fruitful.

Neal's blog

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal." I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today! Those immortal words were spoken by Martin Luther King Jr.

Decline in generic drugs draws EU scrutiny and raids

Antitrust regulators have raided big European drugmakers as part of an investigation into whether patents and lawsuit settlements are being manipulated to keep generic products off the market.

Inspectors from the European Commission seized information about intellectual property rights, litigation and settlements in patent disputes in a series of surprise visits to pharmaceutical companies on Wednesday.

The commission would not identify the companies involved, but Glaxo, AstraZeneca, Wyeth, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, Sanofi-Aventis and Pfizer said later that they had been contacted.

In a statement the commission, the administrative arm of the European Union, said the investigation was in response to indications that competition in the European market "may not be working well."

"Fewer new pharmaceuticals are being brought to the market, and the entry of generic pharmaceuticals sometimes seems to be delayed," the statement added.

5,000 helmets distributed in Dominican Republic

I have doubts Mr. davidjule that you do not feel a drop of superiority while travelling to DR atleast at the early stages of your travels. Also, this behaviro is not unique to foreigners, but also to dominican-york and american-dominicans, they know that in DR with a few dollars you can cops and girls. Those Dominicans that are not doing well here in the U.S. will work like dogs at factories for 6-8 months to then travel there during xmas or the summer time. These also ravage our women and abuse their own people just because they travel and behave as if they belong to some upper class group, while the truth is that in the U.S. they are cleaning toilets for a living. Visit those popular supermarkets in the DR and you what I am talking about. This type, cont.. .

The BIG Immigration Debate

Both will be putting questions to the three main parties.

We want to start the discussion now and want to hear from you. What would you like to say to the three parties?

Do you think we have benefited economically from migration? What effect, if any, have you seen on public services in your area? Should there be limits, and have we as a society gained culturally from immigration?

Let us know what you think..

Woodard: Local Harley dealer riding high on firm's success

When Tom Elsaesser was a teenager, he rode a Harley-Davidson motorcycle to his high school and job. He's been a confirmed rider ever since and has established a successful career in the motorcycle industry.

Elsaesser, 55, a Camarillo resident, has been a Harley-Davidson dealer for the past 20 years. In 1988, he was hired as manager of Los Angeles Harley-Davidson and became a minority partner in that firm. In 1995, he purchased Ventura Harley-Davidson when it was on Morse Avenue in Ventura. He subsequently moved the firm in 1998 to a 22,000-square-foot facility on a two-acre site next to Highway 101 in Camarillo (at 1326 Del Norte Road), the current location.

"This location is really great," he said. "It's centered in relaxing, parklike grounds and has multiple restaurants, hotels, old-time strawberry stands and a new gas station with convenience store nearby.
